No internet banking? What Ryt’s ATM activation route actually solves

A route for existing bank customers without internet banking—and the requirement it does not remove.

Ryt’s published ATM/branch funding route helps people without internet banking. It still requires an existing account in their own name.

What the official instructions say

Ryt’s initial-deposit FAQ requires at least RM1 from another Malaysian bank account registered in your name. Supported methods include DuitNow Transfer, DuitNow Online Banking/Wallets and IBG. A separate FAQ explains that, without internet banking, you can make an IBG transfer at your existing bank’s ATM or branch.

Who this helps

Illustration: you already have a savings account and use its ATM, but have never enabled internet banking. The branch/ATM transfer route can address that particular obstacle to Ryt activation. You still need to complete Ryt’s own application and identity checks.

Who it does not yet solve the problem for

Ryt’s FAQ says an existing current or savings account in your own name is needed. Someone with no bank account should not interpret the marketing phrase “No online banking?” as permission to use a relative’s account or as a cash-only onboarding route. Ask the bank about your circumstances before making a trip.

Allow time for the first transfer

Its IBG guidance says processing can take up to one business day, with weekends and Kuala Lumpur public holidays affecting timing. Keep the originating bank’s receipt and reference. If the money has not appeared, identify the payment method and status before trying again. Use the missing-transfer guide.

Why this matters beyond one bank

Our interpretation: financial inclusion has several obstacles. Removing the need for internet banking can help an existing account holder, while leaving first-account access unresolved. A smoother application journey and access for people who have never banked are different measures of progress.

That distinction matters when reading claims about digital banks serving unserved or underserved customers. Read what adoption numbers can—and cannot—show. For product eligibility, rates and fees, use the Ryt profile.
